A Note from the Choreographer
Virtue explores the desire for continuous female autonomy. A protest that is not new, but one that persists and has been built upon for decades by the work of many powerful women. This dance acknowledges the cyclical nature, laborious upkeep, frustration, and grief experienced by those who seek the longevity of women’s rights.
This is my debut full length dance work. As a young woman and emerging artist, I am interested in how my developing choreographic voice has the potential to contribute to ever relevant political feminist discourse. The genre of Gothic Horror has been used as a thematic vessel to materialise this dialogue with Virtue looking to a future of female inclusion, safety, and strength.
