Tamara Elkins – Costume Designer

Tamara Elkins is a multidisciplinary artist operating at a cross-section of performance, installation, video, and textiles, working between Dharrawal (Wollongong) and Gadigal (Sydney), Australia. She completed a Diploma of Fine Arts at TAFE, and obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Honours from UNSW School of Art & Design.
Elkins has continued to develop her performance practice with residencies in Buenos Aires, Edinburgh, and Sydney and sought further development through courses with Body Weather, Force Majeur, Critical Path, and Readymade works. She was the 2026 recipient of the Performance Space and Critical Path Experimental Choreographic Practice Residency.
Elkins textile and costume work has been further developed through short courses in pattern drafting at Sydney Community College, leather work with the Leather Workers Guild of NSW, costume design for theatre at NIDA, and felt making with contemporary artist Anita Johnson.
Elkins own work focuses on the role of spellwork to drive narrative and mythmaking, in particular, looking at rituals within the matrilineal line and how they can act as a scaffold reinforcing resilience through personal identity.
